The Governing Body recognises the valuable contribution that the wide range of additional activities, including clubs, trips and residential experiences, can make towards students’ personal and social education.

The Governing Body aims to promote and provide such activities both as part of a broad and balanced curriculum for the students of the school and as additional optional activities.

Schools are required to have a procedure for dealing with complaints relating to the school.

The purpose of the procedure is to resolve complaints brought against the school. The procedure explains how to make a complaint and what to expect from the school in response. It also tells complainants what they can do if they are unable to settle the complaint with the school.

Ofsted Report 2019 – Northgate remains a ‘Good’ school

Northgate had a Section 8 Ofsted Inspection on 13^th and 14^th November 2019 to confirm that the school ‘remained good’.  Three inspectors spent a day observing lessons and social times, and talking with a range of staff and students.  The lead inspector remained for a second day, collating a range of feedback and evidence from further observations and discussions to ensure that we are maintaining high standards in all areas of our provision.

It is important to note that Northgate was inspected under the new inspection framework which was introduced in September 2019, and the inspection report, which can be accessed via the link below, has been written to reflect Ofsted’s new framework and reporting processes.

In summary, the inspector identified many positives about Northgate, our students, staff and governors, and provided us with two key suggestions of areas to focus on to continue to ensure that our provision is effective.  This feedback has been incorporated into our school improvement planning.

Relationship & Sex Education

Relationship Education, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education are about helping young people develop healthy, nurturing relationships of all kinds. It should enable them to know what a healthy relationship looks like, what makes a good friend, a good colleague and a successful committed relationship. It is also about the teaching of sex, sexuality and sexual health. It is not about the promotion of sexual orientation or sexual activity.

Our students are living in a vastly complex world and living their lives both off and online. This presents many positive and exciting opportunities, but also challenges and risks. Our aim at Northgate High School is to ensure that in this environment, children and young people know how to be safe and healthy, and how to manage their academic, personal and social lives in a positive way.
